UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN/D.I.S., Denmark
In 1984, The University of Kansas, School of Architecture, Design & Planning established an agreement with the Danish International Studies Program (D.I.S.) to send 3rd or 4th year students to Copenhagen for a Fall semester’s study. Since that time over 100 students have participated in the Program, which is based at the University of Copenhagen with architectural faculty from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
All instruction is in English and students are drawn from approximately 20 other English-speaking schools of architecture in the USA, Canada, Australia and Britain. A unique feature of the DIS program is the range of housing options available to students, ranging from living with Danish host families to student residence hall to shared apartments. Another feature of the program is the integration of classroom teaching with weekly ﬁeld study visits in Copenhagen and, study tour across Denmark and a choice of a longer study tour to either Germany and the Netherlands or Norway and Finland. DIS also oﬀers students the opportunity to earn General Education credits, thereby facilitating a broader educational experience.

Students enroll in the following courses:

Students are eligible to receive a Ewart travel grant from KU and are eligible for up to $1,200 more in scholarships from D.I.S. See David Wiley at the Oﬃce of the Study of Abroad for details. The DIS Program was founded in 1959 and is thus one of the oldest and most established study-abroad programs in the world. DIS students going out Fall semester 4th year must have all Structures (Arch 524 & 624) and Construction Systems (Arch 626 & 627) courses ﬁnished.
